The 14th Biennial General Congress was held in Trinidad and Tobago in December 2022, where the focus was on Post-COP 27 Perspectives and Demands of Caribbean Youth Leaders.At this 4-day event, on December 1st to 4th, 2022, members of the Executive attended and presented on the chapter’s progress within the past year, and lessons learnt. Statements on Climate Change Action and Support for Sustainable Land Management (via the Caribbean Small Island Developing States SOILCARE Initiative) were made, as well as the identification of strategic operational areas for CYEN over the next two years and the election of a new Regional Steering Committee.

The Ministry of Planning and Development (MPD) hosted a Post United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Twenty-Seventh Conference of the Parties (COP 27) Stakeholder Consultation on Monday 5th December, 2022. This consultation aimed to provide a forum to discuss the submissions, negotiations and outcomes regarding climate related issues addressed at COP 27 and the way forward for Trinidad and Tobago. One general member represented CYENTT at this consultation.

Naming Ceremony for Proman Stena Bulk Ltd. first low-emission methanol fuelled ship, state-of-the-art newbuild IMOIIMeMAX methanol-fuelled 49,900 DWT vessel, named the Stena Pro Patria. The event was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port of Spain on Wednesday 23rd November, 2022. The Stena Pro Patria is a joint venture between the methanol producer Proman and tanker shipping company Stena Bulk. The state-of-the-art ship features several designs and technical innovations to optimize energy and fuel efficiency. Two executive members attended the cocktail party.

This event was a follow up to the Climate Justice Week activities held in June using the same funding. The event focused on social media engagement with youth via Instagram and Facebook, though 3 engaging Instagram giveaways. Informational posts about Climate Justice and the 6 Pillars of Climate Justice were made on both platforms in advance of the giveaways. The giveaways were also posted on both platforms; however, Facebook users were directed to Instagram to enter.

The Ministry of Planning and Development (MPD) hosted a Stakeholder Consultation in preparation for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Twenty-Seventh Conference of the Parties (COP 27) on 26th October 2022. This consultation aimed to provide a forum for obtaining the perspectives of valued stakeholder groups on issues to be addressed at COP 27. One executive member and one general member represented CYENTT at this consultation.

IAMovement and The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited hosted the Inaugural Event Caribbean Green Infrastructure Conference 2022 on 25th & 26th October 2022.The conference was centered around two key thematic areas: (i) Green Infrastructure and (ii) Green Finance. Discussions centered around nature-based solutions, the role of carbon finance in driving green infrastructure and carbon sequestration solutions in the Caribbean. One executive member and one general member attended.

The forum was hosted by Kairi Initiatives on 8th October 2022 to provide a mindful and safe space for open sharing of thoughts, questions and ideas on climate adaptation and justice, and what the climate crisis means for Trinidad and Tobago. One executive member and two general members participated in the forum.

This workshop was hosted by Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) on 7th October 2022.It aimed to design a feasible and realistic programme which WUR and CARDI, in collaboration with local partners, can deliver and achieve real impact and make steps towards the required transformation to resilient and nature inclusive food systems on SIDS.

One executive member attended both consultations hosted by the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) and the Ministry of Planning and Development (MPD) on 4th & 5th October,2022. To Design and Develop Adaptation Indicators and Accompanying Process Documents for Reporting and Tracking.
